Workshop for Anti-Violence Education (WAVE)

WAVE (Workshop for Anti-Violence Education) is a group program for men who are abusive to a female, intimate partner. WAVE facilitators confront men regarding their abusive behaviors by challenging belief systems which support, promote and condone abusive behavior. WAVE holds men who are abusive accountable and responsible for their actions while simultaneously teaching skills necessary to develop and sustain non-abusive relationships.

Is It For Me?

The WAVE program works with men who are abusive in their interpersonal relationships with a female intimate partner - wife, girlfriend, common-law. The goals of the WAVE Program are for participants to stop acting abusively towards their partners and to teach men how to develop and sustain non-abusive relationships.

The potential client is responsible for contacting the WAVE program to schedule an intake appointment. Although WAVE accepts men who are not mandated, most men who apply to the program are mandated by the courts, probation, District Attorney's Office or other monitoring agencies. WAVE sends reports to the referring/monitoring agency on a regular basis regarding a participant’s attendance and compliance with the requirements of the program.

To learn more about the program and/or schedule an intake appointment, call our Information and Referral Service at 914-345-5900, extension 240 or send e-mail to help@mhawestchester.org.

What We Deliver

WAVE is a series of group meetings in which educational material is presented and group discussions are co-led by a male and female facilitator. The leaders incorporate videos, written assignments, participants’ experiences and discussion to cover the material. English- and Spanish-speaking groups meet during the daytime and evening. Each group meets for 90 minutes every week, and participants must be on time and pay their fee in order to be in compliance.

WAVE divides the calendar into eight-week cycles. An individual must attend 7 out of 8 scheduled classes in a cycle in order to be in compliance with attendance requirements and must complete 6 cycles for a minimum participation of one year. If all eight classes are attended within a cycle, credit is given for all eight.
